She received a PhD degree in Chemistry from the University of Cologne, Germany. The experimental part of her radiochemical/molecular biological PhD thesis was carried out at the Juelich Research Center, the largest governmental research laboratory in Germany, with Prof. G. Stoecklin as her supervisor. Her post-graduate studies were supported by a personal stipend from the "Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes" (German Natl. Academic Foundation), an organization that promotes the top 1% of students in Germany. Dr. Linz completed medical school with an MD from Aachen Technical University. She is an approbated physician and member of the Medical Association North-Rhine, Germany. After having worked for several years as project leader and deputy department head in an industrial biomedical contract research laboratory in Cologne, she joined the National Cancer Institute of the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, USA as Visiting Fellow of the Fogarty-Foundation. At the NCI she worked on cancer-causing papilloma viruses. Ute Linz hat an den Universitäten Darmstadt und Freiburg/Breisgau ein Doppelstudium in Chemie und Biologie abgeschlossen. Die Promotion zum Dr.rer.nat. erfolgte an der Universität Köln. Die Experimente zu Ihrer radiochemisch-molekularbiologischen Disseration hat sie, gefördert von der "Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes" am Forschungszentrum in Jülich durchgeführt. Ihr Medizinstudium absolvierte sie an der RTWH Aachen. Sie ist Mitglied der Ärtzekammer Nordrhein.
Nach einer mehrjärigen Tätigkeit als Projektleiterin in einem industriellen Auftragsforschungsunternehmen in Köln folgte ein zweieinhalbjähriger Forschungsaufenthalt am National Cancer Institute der National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, USA . Als "Visiting Fellow" der Fogarty-Foundation forschte sie auf dem Gebiet der Tumorvirologie und der Genetik von Papillomviren.
Nach ihrer Rückkehr aus den USA war sie als Laborleiterin am Chemotherapeutischen Forschungsinstitut (Georg Speyer Haus) Frankfurt mit der Entwicklung eines Diagnoseverfahrens für den AIDS-Erreger HIV befasst. Im Forschungszentrum Jülich konzentiert sich ihre heutige wissenschaftliche Arbeit auf die Behandlung von Tumoren mittels Ionenstrahltherapie. Ein Schwerpunkt bildet dabei die Therapie maligner Gliome.
Als Expertin hat sie u.a. die Europäische Kommission in Brüssel, die World Health Organization (WHO) in Genf, und das Bundesforschungsministerium in Bonn beraten.

Ute Linz studied Chemistry (MSc) and Biology (MSc) at Technical University, Darmstadt, and Albert-Ludwig-University, Freiburg, Germany. She received a PhD degree in Chemistry from the University of Cologne, Germany. The experimental part of her radiochemical/molecular biological PhD thesis was carried out at the Juelich Research Center, the largest governmental research laboratory in Germany. Her post-graduate studies were supported by a personal stipend from the "Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes" (German Natl. Academic Foundation), an organization that promotes the top 1% of students in Germany. Dr. Linz completed medical school with an MD from Aachen Technical University. She is an approbated physician and member of the Medical Association North-Rhine, Germany.
After having worked for several years as project leader and deputy department head in an industrial biomedical contract research laboratory in Cologne, she joined the National Cancer Institute of the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, USA as Visiting Fellow of the Fogarty-Foundation. At the NCI she worked on cancer-causing viruses.
